Agricultural University of Tirana

The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) is a public higher education institution founded in 1951 and represents the main academic center in Albania in the fields of agriculture, environment, food science, veterinary medicine, and rural development. The university plays an important role in educating specialists and contributing to the country’s sustainable economic and environmental development.

Currently the university has about 6000 students, 5 Faculties and 1 Institute. The Rector of the university is Prof. Dr. Fatbardh Sallaku, and the institution employs around 600 staff members, of whom more than 300 are Professors or Associate Professors.

AUT aims to provide quality education, scientific research, and professional practice. The university has an important strategic partnership with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). This cooperation contributes to the modernization of curricula, enhancement of teaching quality, joint research projects, and alignment of study programs with European academic standards.

AUT offers study programs at all three academic cycles: Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate, organized in accordance with European standards. Bachelor programs cover a wide range of fields, including agronomy, horticulture, livestock science, veterinary medicine, environmental and water engineering, forestry, landscape architecture, food technology, agricultural informatics, finance, accounting, and agribusiness. These programs combine theoretical knowledge with practical training.

At the Master’s and Doctoral levels, the university focuses on advanced specialization and scientific research in agricultural, environmental, veterinary, economic, and biotechnological sciences. The university is currently working on new Master’s programs in strategic collaboration with the BOKU University, finalizing and aligning curricula with European standards as part of its ongoing academic modernization efforts.

The Agricultural University of Tirana is equipped with modern laboratories, experimental farms, and practical training facilities, which help students develop concrete skills required by the labor market.

CIHEAM-IAMM

CIHEAM Montpellier is one of the four Institutes of the International Centre for Advanced Agronomic Mediterranean Studies (CIHEAM), together with Bari in Italy, Zaragoza in Spain, and Chania in Greece.

Established in 1961, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier offers quality and excellence in training and promotes international cooperation through research project management.

The areas of expertise and action in which CIHEAM Montpellier aims to make an original contribution are divided into three main areas, in line with CIHEAM’s key priorities as set out in its 2030 Strategic Plan:

  • Resilient and sustainable farm systems co-design in response to climate and market uncertainties.
  • Analysis of territorial systems, agricultural and rural policies in the Mediterranean.
  • Coordination, governance, and strategies of stakeholders and organisations within agri-food sectors.

ACTA

Acta supports, leads and represents the network for France’s 19 agricultural technical institutes, which carry out applied R&D for all agricultural animal and plant production.

 

With 2,400 employees, this network is a professional tool for applied research and knowledge transfer for farmers and the agricultural, agro-industrial and forestry sectors. Led by farmers for 70 years, Acta is a unique association in Europe, federating the technical institutes around the major challenges of agriculture (competitiveness, climate change, digital transition, agro-ecological transition and biodiversity, One Health and animal welfare) and connecting with research organizations, agricultural chambers, professional agricultural organizations and public authorities.

CIHEAM Zaragoza

CIHEAM Zaragoza is an intergovernmental organisation working towards multilateral cooperation for sustainable agrifood systems in the Mediterranean region. It is composed of 13 member countries (Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Türkiye). CIHEAM Zaragoza is the headquarters of the organisation in Spain offering international training and promoting applied research, innovation and development in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry, the environment, and natural resources in the Mediterranean. CIHEAM Zaragoza grows by networking and collaborating with experts and organisations around the world in a multilevel approach to build capacities, transfer knowledge and foster scientific diplomacy.

QuaRES

QuaRES : Quality and Societal Responsibility in Research and Higher Education

The association for quality and social responsibility in research and higher education was created in September 2006. Its purpose is to observe and promote quality approaches in research and higher education. The association has, for more than 15 years, acquired recognition of its competence and experience in the field of quality. Its statutes evolved in 2020 and the name “QuaRES” now refers to a network for exchanging experiences, observing and promoting practices, of awareness and training for quality and societal responsibility actors in research and higher education in the form of an association according to the law of 1 July 1901 as amended and its implementing texts, consisting of its members.

QuaRES mobilizes its wide network of experts to :

·         Promote the development and implementation of quality and societal responsibility approaches in research and higher education.

·         Report on its activities, reflections and proposals to all stakeholders.

·         Raise awareness and train actors in research and higher education.

·         Promote and develop quality and social responsibility expertise missions (evaluation, audit, training engineering, methodological support, …).

·         Develop collaborations, projects and partnerships with national, international and foreign organizations having similar or complementary objects.

·         Promote initiatives supporting Quality and Societal Responsibility missions: territorial observatories, networking of actors and resources.

 

·         Develop and capitalise the exchange of experience, the dissemination of knowledge, dialogue and debate between the actors concerned, in particular through meetings, working groups, events and publications.

Center of Agriculture Technology Transfer of Fushë Kurjë

Center of Agriculture Technology Transfer is an institution of applied research and transfer of technologies in agriculture field and rural development.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The generation, adaptation, testing and transfer of agricultural technologies in function of technical and technological progress, increasing the effectiveness and competitiveness of agricultural and livestock production, sustainable development and environmental protection. Providing expertise, training and information to agricultural advisory and agribusiness structures.

DUTY

Identification, testing, adaptation and introduction into agricultural practices of new technologies and inputs in agricultural crops and livestock;

Preparation of technological packages for agricultural crops and animal breeding;

Studies and recommendations in the field of soil and water;

Integrated farm management;

Farm-level research and testing for problems raised by farmers;

Trainings for agriculture, livestock specialists, farmers and other interested subjects;

Provision of technical expertise for advisory service structures and farmers;

Demonstration of new technologies for the cultivation of fodder crops, beans, as well as for the breeding of cattle, pigs and poultry.
